Dreamcatcher privacy policy
Dreamcatcher is a dream journal. Your dreams are personal, so this page sets out plainly what the app keeps, where it goes, and how to get it deleted. In short: your journal is stored in your own private account, it is shared with an AI service only when you ask for a reading or a picture, and there are no ads and no tracking.
What Dreamcatcher stores
- Your journal. Dreams you write or dictate (title, text, date, tags, and whether the dream was lucid), the readings and pictures you ask for, and your app settings.
- Your account. Dreamcatcher creates an anonymous account the first time you open it, so your journal can be backed up without asking who you are. If you choose to sign up, we also store your email address so you can sign in on another phone.
- Your purchases. If you buy Dreamcatcher Pro or a Day Pass, we keep a record of the purchase and when your Pro access ends. Google Play handles the payment itself; we never see your card details.
Your journal is stored in Google Firebase, in an account only you can read. We do not read your dreams.
When your dreams leave the app
- Readings and pictures. When you ask for a reading or a picture of a dream, the text of that dream (with its title and tags) is sent to Google's Gemini API to produce it. Nothing is sent until you tap the button, and only that one dream is sent. We use Google's paid API service, under whose terms Google does not use your prompts to train its models. Google keeps them for a limited time to detect abuse.
- Voice input. Speaking a dream uses your phone's built-in speech recognition, which on most Android phones is provided by Google. Dreamcatcher never records or stores your voice; it receives only the transcribed text.
- Reports. If you report a reading or picture, a copy of it and of the dream it came from is sent to us so we can review it. Reports carry your account ID, not your name or email, and are kept only as long as that review needs.
- Sharing and exporting. If you share a picture or export your journal, it goes wherever you send it. That is your choice, and only happens when you do it.
Who processes data for us
- Google Firebase stores your account and journal.
- Google Gemini API writes readings and paints pictures, as described above.
- RevenueCat keeps track of purchases. It receives your anonymous account ID and purchase details, but not your journal.
- Upstash holds short-lived counters that stop the AI features being abused: your account ID, and a one-way scrambled form of your IP address, never the address itself. The counters expire within 30 days. Records of which Day Passes have been switched on are kept so a pass can't be used twice.
- Google Play handles payments and app downloads.
Each of these services handles data only to do its job for Dreamcatcher.
What Dreamcatcher does not do
- No advertising, and no advertising IDs.
- No analytics or tracking of how you use the app.
- No selling or renting of your data to anyone, ever.
- No location, contacts, photos library or camera access. Saving a picture to your phone needs no permission.
Keeping and deleting your data
Your journal is kept until you delete it. You can delete any dream in the app, which also deletes its readings and its picture. You can export your whole journal at any time from Settings.
To delete your account and everything in it, open Settings › Your data › Delete account in the app. This deletes your account, journal, readings and pictures straight away. If you no longer have the app, email craig@vagrantdigital.com from the address you signed up with, or with the account ID shown in Settings, and we will delete it within 30 days and confirm by email. Purchase records may be kept where the law requires it.
Children
Dreamcatcher is not meant for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from them. If you believe a child has used the app, contact us and we will delete their data.
Security
Data travels encrypted between the app and these services and is encrypted where it is stored. Each journal can be read only by its own account.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will appear here with a new effective date.
